We all know that Education is a journey and not a destination and so it is with us Doctors. We Pathologists have quarterly continuing medical education programs which culminate in an annual conference.
During the course of our practice as Pathologists over the last three to four decades, we have documented the fact that diseases such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Cancer, Asthma, PCOD and many others, have not only increased in frequency but are also occurring at a much younger age. This has been scientifically linked with the increase in the contamination of the soil, water and air by toxic pollutants for which, we as a species, are responsible.
Seeing as how our practice of mindless consumerism, use and throw policy, and irresponsible consumption of natural resources, have degraded our planet and consequently negatively impacted our own health and that of our downline, we decided to make a difference, however small.
Listed below are the modifications which were made by the Organizing Committee of Pathcon 2023, which was held at “The Lalit” hotel, New Delhi on 17th December 2023.
1. Dispensed with floral tributes
2. Gave useful articles as mementos and prizes
3. Insisted on Glass water bottles & glasses at the conference tables
4. Added millet dishes to the lunch menu
5. Released an E – Souvenir instead of a paper booklet
7. Promoted and supported the use of pre- loved clothes and accessories
I am sure that small measures like these will have maximum impact.
