Passion For Compassion Feeding 250 Children Daily

On 27th November 2017, a close group of four friends, with a keen desire to serve came together to create a rather unique group. Far from the regular work, school, party, kitty and general groups, this one was all about caring and sharing. Thus was born Passion for Compassion, created by Madhu Bhagat (9214), Hafeez Rehman (9232), Jyoti Shrivastava (Villa 7) and Chitra Guru (6042). Coupled with Madhu’s valuable experience of over 30 years as a Rotarian and sharing a desire for service, it was only a matter of time before this group launched their initiative.

They started working to provide rations, books, stationery, winter jackets, wheelchairs and basic medical care for the underprivileged, old and destitute connected with Vatsalyam Gurukul, Safdarjung Hospital Dharamshala, Trauma Centre Noida and Earth Saviours Foundation, among others. They especially reached out to the children of local bastis and JJ colonies and spread the need for hygiene for women and girls by developing a system of distribution of sanitary napkins periodically.

Two years later, with more help coming in from like-minded residents and friends, Passion for Compassion started a Community Kitchen. Their Combat Hunger Project began a systematic distribution of food, whereby 1000 meals were cooked daily at the premises of Bhavani Shiv Mandir. This running kitchen ensures one wholesome meal to at least 200-250 children and adults on a daily basis. They hire an e-rickshaw daily to deliver food to 7-8 other locations in Barola Village, Labour Chowk and various schools for underprivileged children. This paved the way for their main Langar Seva for which Madhu has motivated numerous fellow Hamletians, family and friends. Monthly contributions for the same have been steadily pouring in from every tower. One can also celebrate any special occasion like birthdays, anniversaries and remembrances by donating for or sponsoring the Langar Seva.

Their work is absolutely transparent, with locations and addresses being shared regularly. Residents have visited many of these and even worked on ground level to help the needy. Madhu sums it up simply in Khalil Gibran’s words, “A man’s true wealth is the good he does in the world”. Her motto, “Together We Can”.
