A car entered the parking lot at 6.49 pm and exited at 9.40 pm, with the parking fee coming to Rs 60.
The 34-year-old parking attendant was thrashed with a bat allegedly by a physical education teacher at a private school, after the latter was asked to pay a parking fee of Rs 60. The incident took place near PVR Priya in Basant Lok Market, officials said, adding that the accused was arrested.
DCP (Southwest) Manoj said they received a PCR call regarding the incident around 10.30 pm, after which a police team reached the spot and found that the injured, Vikas Thakur, a resident of Kusumpur Pahadi, had been taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre with serious injuries and admitted in the red zone for treatment.
Subsequently, police recorded the statement of an eyewitness, Manoj Kumar (34), who stated that around 7 pm, a man driving a Honda Amaze parked his car in the area and Thakur created a parking receipt for them. “He (the owner) came back around 9.30 pm in a drunken condition to take his car… Kumar asked him to pay the parking fee of Rs 60 before leaving.
The accused allegedly began abusing and threatening Kumar and Thakur came and intervened. “The accused then took out a bat from his car and chased both Kumar and Thakur, eventually catching hold of Thakur and hitting him repeatedly.
A case under IPC section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) was lodged at Vasant Vihar police station and the registration number of the car was analysed after tracking CCTV footage in the area. The vehicle was traced to one Vikram Jeet Singh (28), a resident of Saidulajab in Mehrauli.He works as a PT teacher at a private school in Saket.
Police said he was arrested and his vehicle and the weapon of offence, the bat, was seized from him. “He has been sent to judicial custody and the role of other persons is being investigated.
A senior police officer said the other occupant of the car who was present with Singh is also being questioned. “During initial interrogation, the accused said he lost his cool and started beating the victim.
