There seems to be no respite from the pollution either
A school is a very necessary part and one of the important considerations when one is deciding to settle. But sometimes they become a cause of continuous nuisance for those living in the vicinity. The buses parked on the roads inside the Sector eat up space and reduce the width of the road. This combined with the fact that they cause huge traffic chaos and jams during school hours. The situation worsens when there is a PTM or admission season in the school. The traffic outside the school gate tends to become monstrous, especially at a time when school children are picked up or dropped off.
“This is a violation of a written agreement between the RWA and the school. The agreement is on record in the RWA. The school has to provide one security guard at Gate 2 and Gate 2 will permit only two buses at a time to enter. Once children board the bus, the school administration phones its guard at gate 2 to send two more and so on. Entry is at Gate 2 and Exit is at Gate 3 for all school buses. All this is on record, says an exasperated resident.
The gates which open near the main roads are another spots which face grotesque traffic congestion. The service lane is not spared either. To avoid the traffic signal, even bigger vehicles such as buses use the lanes; making it difficult for the residents to use it as a two-way lane.
With a big school inside, a huge traffic signal near another gate and a mammoth shopping mall along with a metro station, the roads circling the Sector seem to grip it with vicious traffic. With the onset of the winter season, the harmful and toxic effects of polluted air will worsen.
While nothing much can be done about the traffic congestion on the roads outside the Sector or in front of the gates, planting more trees in the green belt and the Sector can reduce the harmful effects of pollution from it. It is useless to hope for a miracle or depend on civic agencies; the need of the hour is the initiation of a green drive by the residents. Many residents are involved in such activities but we need to do it on a war footing so that the serenity of the Sector is saved.
