Park No. 5, located in the A/B block, was once neglected and lacked the attention it deserved. However, thanks to the dedicated efforts of volunteers, including Siddharth Gupta (B127) and Abhimanyu Khanna (C-138), along with a team of hardworking gardeners, it has been transformed into a beautiful and vibrant park that is now a source of joy for the residents.
The transformation of the park began when Mr.Gupta took on the responsibility of maintaining it. He had a clear action plan and a strong vision for the park. Abhimanyu Khanna, who serves as the Joint Secretary of the RWA and is the horticulture in charge of Suncity, joined forces with Siddharth Gupta to bring about this change. In just 21 days, their collective efforts revitalized the park. Vivek Chopra(B144), another determined volunteer, played a significant role in this transformation.
They started by making efficient use of existing resources provided by the MCG, without incurring extra expenses. They planted hedges and plants, and Mr. Khanna grew quite a few hedges in addition to what was provided by MCG within our Suncity Nursery, which was then planted in and around the park. The enthusiastic residents of the A/B block also contributed to a fundraiser organized by the volunteers, and the funds were used to purchase permanent flower plants to maintain the park’s beauty. These seasonal flowers bloom every 3-4 months with minimal maintenance. Additionally, a beautiful white canopy was added to the park by MCG, along with accessories and decorations like dream catchers donated by Suncity residents. A stunning fountain, courtesy of Mr. Chopra, was recently installed as well.
This park is not just aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally friendly. Volunteers have procured solar lights which have been installed in the park, and the newly installed fountain will soon be functional with solar power. The colourful, painted tires, created by Mr. Khanna, that serve as planters, have been placed around the park and hung from tree branches with succulent plants that require less water. The Reduce, Reuse, Recycle approach by the volunteers makes this park unique and the first one to take up such an initiative.
The park has also become a gathering place for a group of senior citizens from Suncity. They celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, exercise, and pray together every morning, forming a close-knit community. According to Mr. Rathi, it’s the best park in Suncity. Mr. Anand and Mr. Sabarwal shared their daily routine in the park, which includes exercise, morning prayer, and mutual prayers for each other. It has also become a favourite spot for snacks and tea for Mr. Anil Datta. The efforts of the volunteer team have been highly appreciated by all the residents who have witnessed this transformation. Additionally, there are weekend cricket matches near the park. These residents also played a significant role in the park’s revival.
Park No. 5 is a testament to the positive impact of community involvement and sustainable practices. Volunteers like Siddharth Gupta, Abhimanyu Khanna, and Vivek Chopra have shown what can be achieved through dedication and vision. With a growing number of dedicated volunteers and a commitment to sustainable practices, the future holds the promise of even more beautiful and environmentally friendly green spaces for the residents of Suncity to enjoy.
