A couple of weeks back, we began our search for a “good” play school. What I thought would be a cake walk turned out to be an eye opener at so many levels. I had short listed a few, in order of the distance from my home for obvious reasons.
I had a completely different image in my mind than what I saw. I wanted a “play school” where he would go, play and come back. Also, though not initially, I started taking my child with me to these visits and tried to see things through his eyes. It’s a lovely way to observe, trust me. And that is when I took a step back, took a long deep breath and threw all my criteria out of the window. Thereafter it became a sort of a ritual for both of us.
Now coming to why I am sharing this experience. Well, people will tell you it’s too early for school, the schools will say you are already way behind, others will say you are doing too much, you are wanting too much, just put him in the school nearest to your place, why fret so much over a play school? I have only one thing to say to my fellow parents, don’t follow any advice, you do you. Trust your instincts. The school we finally decided upon was just hidden in plain sight and we never paid any attention to it, it wasn’t in any of our lists, we chanced upon it and loved it so much that decided to go ahead with it.
Keeping our fingers crossed and with an open mind, be ready to embrace this new phase of parenthood. All the best!!
