There’s no place like home’ and for so many of us home is Panchshila Park and the home away from home has been Panchshila Club. Naturally, Founder’s Day is very special for our colony. Late RP Barman and four of his friends formed the Panchshila Co-operative House Building Society. The name Panchshila is a reference to 5 shilas which were representative of their strong friendship that would endure the test of time.
The Founder’s Day celebration, held in the evening on April 14, 2024, was imbued with the same spirit of friendship. The invite was to celebrate 56 years of our legacy and remember all those who made it possible, and it was truly a joyous occasion. MP Hall and Poolside were decorated with plants festooned with fairy lights, candles on the tables added to the look and there was live music (pure nostalgia with songs from the 60s and 70s).
Rajesh Chopra the President, in his speech paid homage to our Founder’s who had the vision to lay the foundation of this wonderful institution. He also hoped we would all join hands in harmony and work hard so that future generations can benefit from our Founder’s vision. Of course, nothing is possible without the hard working staff and he was all praise for them. He then handed over the mic to Ms. Suman Chopra, the Club and Cultural Affairs Sub-Committee Chairperson who invited our wonderful super-seniors for the cake cutting ceremony. The cake was cut as Irene sang Congratulations and Celebrations, adding to the festive atmosphere. Madhu Singh presented our senior members with a posy of roses.
The highlight of the evening was the enthusiasm of our Society and Club members who participated wholeheartedly. Over 200 attended and time flew by, as it does when you spend time with friends. There was tea and snacks, chaat and drinks and weather was perfect to sit by the poolside and enjoy the feast. The evening was a fitting tribute as it honoured the foresight of our Founders, celebrated in the present and looked to a future where we move forward confidently and raise Panchshila Park to even greater heights.
