On 2nd January, a ground floor resident of S block (identity withheld to maintain privacy) was robbed of appx Rs. 20,000 by 2 thieves who entered by cutting a portion of the wood and opening the inside latch with a wire. This may have been averted if the grill and latches were fully secured, which they were not, as found out later. The attendant said that one of them allegedly pulled a gun on him whilst the other continued with the search. The police were contacted but a formal case has not been registered, to prevent nuisance for the very senior citizen. For the colony, it once again throws up the need for higher levels of surveillance and security which is only possible if residents come forward and contribute toward it regularly. This collection has been a subject of ongoing debate after one of the residents obtained a stay on its mandatory collection over 3 years ago. There is also a lesson for residents to secure their houses with proper latching etc. and instruct their servants/attendants to ensure this in the interest of all. (Contributed by Vinit Taneja)
