Lots of non-residents’ vehicles are being parked on Maharani Bagh roads especially on I & H roads. Sometime back a resident got few bikes removed through a beat officer who took prompt action.
A resident suggested that all non-resident vehicles should be reported to Police and towed away. Who knows what threat they pose to life and security of residents? The problem is Maharani Bagh is not a closed society and all the roads are regarded public roads which means that even non residents have equal right to park on them.
However, there is a branch of the law known as the law of Easements that confers rights on the owner of property beyond the strict boundaries of the property itself. The police can under this law tow away the vehicles if residents file a complaint.
The problem of outsiders especially shopkeepers parking their cars inside has been there for a long time. This has recently aggravated because Uber and other rider service operators have started parking their vehicles inside the colony as well. One resident shared some pictures of at least 10 cars Uber etc parked in front of B 41. Three at the back gate of B 41. 5- 6 cars are parked everyday near gate 4 and around 20 bikes are also being parked inside. Unfortunately, all the guards are aware of this but unable to prevent them from parking.
One resident shared that a car belonging to the owner of Punjab Opticals is parked on main road across gate no 4. This was being parking for last 3 years. He requested him not park the car in Maharani Bagh and also not occupy half the road which would block emergency vehicle passage. The car has been moved further down the road now.
Once a resident had reported that somebody parked his car across his driveway, blocking his entrance and then claimed that since his property ends at his gate they have every right to use that space for parking.
This is not an infrequent problem. Normally one accommodates when there is a driver to move that car, but this time there was no one to approach and he could not enter his own house! When the owner was finally contacted, they came out quite leisurely without any concern for inconveniencing him. Most people in normal circumstances would have hurried to correct their mistake, but not this one! On top of that they kept grumbling, mumbling continuously without a trace of apology, ultimately leading to heated arguments. They were ill mannered enough to ask him for his property papers to prove that it was actually his property! Imagine the crass mentality.
