If we destroy creation, creation will destroy us. It therefore becomes imperative upon each one of us to protect our environment for a better life. Aagastya Jaipuria firmly holds this belief while speaking avidly about his passion for environmental conservation to create a greener earth.
While he had always felt concerned about the rapid deterioration of the environment that he had witnessed over the years, the Covid induced lockdown gave Aagastya the much needed time to ponder about the ways in which he could contribute towards environmental restoration. This led him to join hands with Greenlight, an organization set up to create awareness among our youth to care for our planet. His relentless efforts included creating environmental awareness through aggressive social media campaigns and Quiz programs while motivating people around him to take an active plunge for this social cause that Aagastya espouses. He reminisces about how he was moved by the sorry plight of his immediate surroundings a few months back that made him take up the job of cleaning up areas like the local parks and markets near his home by leading a team of a few like-minded volunteers from Greenlight. Their work inspired many other fence sitters like the shopkeepers and park visitors to also join them in this campaign.
A resident of W Block in GK-2, Aagastya feels constrained to expand his work scope to the other parks and areas in the colony due to the presence of several intimidating stray dogs that chase the volunteers away. Nonetheless, this does not deter Agastya and his team to continue with their cleanliness campaign by partnering with a few other organizations that are active in the field of environmental protection. Their work inspired Change UCOS, a Belgian organization to collaborate with Aagastya in this drive by deploying about 40 additional volunteers while on a visit to India earlier this year. Since then, Aagastya has never looked back at mobilizing resources for undertaking environmental initiatives. He also takes the help of his friends to act as force multiplier for spreading awareness of his work on social media. In March`22, Aagastya pursued the initiative of planting about 120 trees along with his friends all over Delhi.
His active participation in these social causes got Aagastya instant recognition at Greenlight when he was recently elected as the President of that organization. A keen traveler, Aagastya has extensively moved around all over the country. His special love for the nature keeps taking him back to the hills where Aagastya has seen rapid urbanization ruin the natural beauty of the hills besides disturbing their ecological balance.
