Our Recently Lit Parks Have Excessive Lighting

Bright & Beautiful or Dark & Beautiful Light Pollution Is Something to be Aware About

Recently with the efforts of some residents and RWCS Noida Authority installed many new light poles in some parks of the sector. The idea was that small girls and boys who play till late evening are not safe playing in the dark.

However, the number of poles installed are far too many and the parks are excessively lit. It may be great from the aesthetic and security point of view, but it’s not good for our night birds and insects and even for our own eyes.

There are two thoughts among the residents some feel that their children are now safer playing while the other thought is that the light is far too much and disturbs their normal living.

It is common that certain kind of light is desirable for one individual and not for the other. Disputes are still common when deciding appropriate action, and differences in opinion over what light is considered reasonable.

The other issue is that air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution, soil contamination are the terms we all are familiar with but are we aware of the term photo pollution or luminous Pollution??? Well, these are different names for light pollution, which refers to multiple problems, all of which are caused by unnecessary use of artificial light. It causes damage to the environment and health, as do other forms of pollution.

Life existed with natural patterns of light and dark, so disruption of those patterns influences many aspects of animal behavior. Light pollution can confuse animal navigation, alter competitive interactions, change predator-prey relations, and influence animal physiology.

It’s time we understand that light pollution has adverse effects on the environment, which remain unnoticed but in times to come, it may prove to be disastrous. The light pollution should be adequately monitored and worked on controlling the situation before it goes out of hand.
