Only Girls & Ladies Were Active the Boys & Young Men Were Missing from This Religious Program

Janamashtami Function

After a long gap of 4 years Sector A/B&C’s Shri Shiv Shakti Mandir Samiti organized a grand Janmashtami function on 7th Sept. Children and youth participated with great enthusiasm and performed various dances and Krishna leela. Many of our resident ladies also did beautiful dances even on live bhajans. In all these years especially in Vasant Kunj, all of us would have observed that only girls and ladies are active in all these activities while boys and young men are missing from the such society/religious programs. This phenomena is not in other places, where one can see young men and youth organizing different religious functions and managing even traffic in harsh weather conditions.

Probably, our type of society is becoming nuclear and the grownups are either living alone or separately. They have their own groups to enjoy karaoke, picnics or enjoy discussing national problems. This is fueled by senior citizen’s associations. But these organizations are not at fault as there is already a disconnect between the not so young and young within our societies and families. Younger ones are too involved with Dogs and cats while the other set of people are into clubs and restaurant culture. This gap is pushing our adolescents towards social media and other non-fruitful activities.

It’s the duty of our experienced seniors to motivate them towards societal / religious participation. This can give our young one’s great set of learning of leadership and organizational skills. Apart from grooming into stress free citizens, their prospective towards selfishness will diminish and they will learn the benefits of togetherness. But due to lack of their parents’ time and interest, many children are not able to participate regularly in religious and social activities and miss this important lifechanging experience.

Why boys are seen missing while we see lots of girls participate, is mainly due to girls have the option of dance as their hobby while boys don’t have such options within short distances. Traditional skills for boys are not available so they are opting for gyms as the only alternative. However, the best stress burster is the religious place of any faith. It’s our experience that if we are following any faith from our childhood days, a simple visit to that place will make us stress free and calm our emotions.

I strongly believe that parents, grandparents and even RWAs should plan activities considering our adolescents as main participants along with them.
