To a Soldier, Statesman and True Sikh

Lt. Col. Darshan Singh (Retd), a veteran of the Indian Army passed away on 06 September. Born on 10 April 1935, his contribution towards the Nation and the Society is highly remembered, recognized and appreciated. In his tenure in the Indian Army, he served at various places like Ladakh, Nagaland, Udhampur, Faridkot and many more, PAN India. He fought both 1965 and 1971 Wars.

He commanded 8 Mountain Div Ordnance Unit at Nagaland & was approved for the rank of full Colonel.    

He was twice appointed as Bihar contingent commander for NCC Cadets for Republic Day Camps at Delhi and was given appreciation by the Governor of Bihar for greatly improving the rank of NCC Bihar cadets, in the interstate ranking competition.

In 2003–2004 he got his house built at Sector 50, Noida. He was one of the Founding members of Sector 50 Resident Welfare Association (RWA) and, along with Major Mathur and late Justice MP Singh, worked on various initiatives and projects for the improvement and welfare of Residents of Sector-50.

He was always at the forefront and personally took lot of interest in getting the street lights installed initially, sector gates for security, and cleaning of green belt surrounding the sector.

He was also one of the Founder members of Gur Sikh Sangat of Sector-50, which relentlessly works for Human and Sikh brotherhood and advocates the Sikh Guru’s messages of Kindness, Humanity and Sewa. He was the motivating factor behind all Prabhat Pheri and other functions organized by the Gur Sikh Sangat in the Sector/Community Centre.

His guidance, advice, kindness will always be missed not only by RWA but all residents. Someone so special can never be forgotten. May God give a place to his Soul at his feet. He will always remain in our memories.
