Noise Pollution From School & Construction Sites A Major Concern

Noise coming from nearby schools and construction sites has been a major issue with high-rises close by. Ridgewood is no different with a senior secondary school right next to the society premise, residents are often bothered with the loud Noise coming from the speakers used in their every day school assembly, periodic events, outdoor activities etc.

Recently, representatives of the RWA had also gone and met with the school committee to ask them to lower the volume of their regular activities held in the grounds.

Ridgewood is experiencing high decibels with school along western boundary and DLF constricting a new apartment complex along eastern boundary and construction going beyond mid night, which had to be reported to local police but with little respite.

A similar situation is faced by apartment complexes across Gurugram including Carlton 4 in DLF Phase 5 that faces a primary school in the vicinity.

The CPCB has laid down the permissible noise levels in India for different areas. Noise pollution rules have defined the acceptable level of noise in different zones for both daytime and night time. Day time noise standard prescribed for residential areas in India is 55 dB. Daytime is defined as 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

We should collectively try and find solutions to create noise barriers around such areas to improve the quality of life of residents in the complex. One possible solution could be a noise barrier wall that is often used on highways to absorb traffic noise. Green barriers such as bushy trees could also help reduce the Noise levels coming from main road and the school.

There’s a need to mutually appreciate the need and the concern and amicably resolve the situation.
