Thousands of miles away from the stadium where Indian cricket team scripted history, on 29 June, by winning the T20 World Cup, ATS Village residents had set up their own outfield to watch together and cheer Team India lift the glorious World Cup in style. A giant screen was set up at the club house to live stream the action from West Indies. The ambience was nothing short of the Barbados stadium, with 200 people waving the Tiranga amidst Dhols and reverberating echoes of ‘Chak de India’ played at every boundary that India hit.
There were tense, nerve wracking moments when India lost precious wickets for a song and had to resort to tightrope walking. But the audience held their nerves as did the men in Blue negotiating the moments. With 30 runs required off 30 balls and six wickets in hand of the mercurial South Africans, a few got dejected; gave up chasing rainbows and were about to leave, but the meticulous Indian team assiduously engendered a spectacular turnaround and oh boy! that surreal theatrical catch from SKY brought back the apogee of frenzied gusto as the audience couldn’t resist grooving to the DJ belting out patriotic songs even as the last legal delivery of the match was still underway. SKY had no limits on the day!
Hail the rhapsodical enthusiasm of ATS cricket lovers! Hail the indomitable Indian team! Congratulations Countrymen!
