The morning of 28th June brought havoc in many parts of Delhi. Though the long-awaited rain was a welcome relief but it was so heavy & intense that it brought a lot of misery for Delhites. Many of our residents shared pictures of neighboring colonies & of Delhi airport, where a huge roof collapsed. In most of the surrounding areas including our very own B Block, water entered many houses & showrooms causing an extensive damage. Cars were submerged in water. However, thank God, S block was spared the misery. Our roads & backlanes were almost dry. Sewer back flow was there in some houses but that is a different story all together. S block Society has, over the years taken a few measures, with the help of various authorities & by a constant follow up, due to which our block remains safe. For the information of all our readers, sharing the few measures taken over the last few years,
1.In the year 2015-16, when the present M.C of SBWS was elected for the 1st time, an extensive stormwater project, sanctioned by Ajay Makhan, in the year 2014, was implemented in S Block at a cost of 9.5 crores. It took almost one year to complete & our M.C members were constantly on their toes during that period to get the project implemented.
After that, desilting was done almost every year through the efforts of our Councilor Shikha Rai & MCD. Lastly, all our inner roads were recarpetted regularly in the year 2017-2020, through the efforts of our MLA & Councillior. The latest road, S2-126 was recarpeted about eight months back at a cost of 35 lakhs through the MLA fund. All the above timely actions kept S Block Safe.
Many complimentary messages were received by team SBWS. A few are reproduced here. “We fully appreciate the most sincere efforts of our president & his team, who are always deeply involved in the upkeep & maintenance of our Block. They deserve a big thanks & salute from all residents”- Maj. Gen.Anil Oberoi-S 251. “MK Sir, you & your team are doing excellent service to the S Block residents. All the members are in your full support. I wonder why each resident of the block does not appreciate the Yeoman’s service that you are doing, by becoming members of SBWS. May some wisdom & sense of justice dawn on the non members.”- Brig Mehra, S 406, FF.
On the flip side, a non member(a person who with his team has lost many elections) claimed that SBWS has done nothing for S Block in the last ten years except wasting money. Quite hilarious & funny.
