18 December. This was the last book meet of the year 2024 for our Book Club. That is almost 6 years of book clubbing. There was 100% attendance with all 12 mem-bers present. We had a fruitful discussion on the book “The Lion Women Of Tehran.”
The book backdrop is Tehran amidst social and political turmoil. The book opens with the blossoming friendship of two young and vibrant girls. They join the same kindergarten in a poor neighbourhood. The members felt that the book very intelligently traced the lives of the two girls entwined with the political and social turmoil in the country.
The members talked about how the author beautifully etched the dreams, the struggles, and the changing perceptions of the girls with the political and societal change in their country. It ended on a realistic note of migration and revolution. Lastly, the main theme portrayed the strength, perseverance, and indomitable spirit of the women of Iran as embodied by the two female friends.
It was a well-liked book with an average rating of 4.2 by the members.
