Unique benches to act as deterrent
A completely new and beautiful rain shelter is now the pride of the place in the Tikona Park of the colony. Initially slated for the Rock Garden it was shifted to Tikona Park after some opposition to its construction in the Rock Garden. A good sum of 7 lakhs plus was spent on its construction from the MLA fund under the initiation of Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj. Somehow it seemed like it took forever to make it due to the enforcement of Grap3 multiple times.
The work got stalled in between and even the design was changed from a flamboyant one to a more sedate as per the request of 3 lady residents who were involved with overseeing the work.
The main feature of the gazebo/rain shelter is its unique seating benches which are specifically designed to prevent people from sleeping over them. So many public park benches are laden with individuals sleeping off alcohol laden stupor, slowly turning these into homeless shelters. Many times the presence of these vagrants deter residents from using the parks altogether, especially by ladies.
The innovative benches are one of its kind and may well set the trend for all future public benches in public places across the city.
