The football ground in the S Block Park, which used to be full of stones, grit, wild grass and barren patch, was closed for refurbishing and for growing grass for the benefit of children and
nearby residents.
Lots of dust used to be generated whenever the kids played in the park. Lots of trash used to be left behind by users after having lunch etc. Many residents used to throw bajara and rotis for pigeons that created unhealthy and unhygienic conditions for fellow residents.
MC of SBWS took up the project of making it a green lung on a war footing. The first challenge was to close the park for at least two months to grow grass in this almost 2000 sq meters area.
Two gates were erected at a cost of Rs Sixty thousand and this portion of the park was closed on 1 Sept.
A large number of residents supported the move. Lots of casual workers were engaged by the society in addition to its own staff. Grass roots were planted over the next 45 days after clearing the debris and wild grass. Almost one full tempo load of malba and garbage was removed from the ground.
Timely rains helped in quick growth.
The result is a lush green field, which has been appreciated by our residents. Finally, the ground was inaugurated and opened on 1 Nov for children to use and budding cricket players.
As is customary, Narial breaking ceremony was held and sweets distributed.
About forty helpers of our block use this park for playing cricket during their off hours. After all they also need some relaxation.
This ground, to begin with, will be opened for two hours every day from 4 to 6 pm.
