Never Stone A Dog…

By Ashok Nanchahal (D906 NFC)

There are more than three hundred and fifty varieties of Dogs found in this World, one can see them in every nook and corner of all countries.
The Dog is perhaps the only species which goes with master to the bed and there is no hue and cry at home.
The other day a beautiful dog wearing multi coloured coat of latest style, tied with expensive chain on morning stroll with maid servant, suddenly two street dogs jumped upon him and the maid who was totally unaware of the hostile attempt the dogs started barking with full force, dog coat was snatched and torn, the maid was bewildered and horrified. This all happened within seconds, the passersby were stunned but extended help to the dog and the maid. The poor smart dog couldn’t save himself and the maid.
Though dogs are not allowed in the Parks and it’s a punishable offence as per Dog Act. But even then dog loving people feel very happy being on morning walk along with their dogs. They also enjoy when the dog evacuates on the footpath of Park without any consideration towards the fellow walkers. They never bother to clear the footpath which annoys fellow walkers, sometimes all this goes with exchange of bad words between them. Since, pet lovers never train them at home for such activities, even though the training is only for five- six days to teach few cue words to the dog.
Some pet masters ask their servants, chowkidars or ladies to go out with one or more dogs for evacuating in the morning.
The other day a Nepali servant along with two black dangerous looking big sized dogs were roaming in Sheesham Park, one daily walker objected that he keeps it out of the Park as he was scared of such dogs. The servant ignored his diktat and next day he again brought the dogs. The same discussion pursued and he kept coming with dogs for a few more days. One morning, the same old man shouted at him, the servant replied very rudely, “my Saab bolta hai ki dog ko tum park me ghumao…. Koi Darne ki baat nahi, hum Saab ki baat mane yan tumhari.”
The elder person called a few young boys to settle the score, the boys caught the servant from neck and gave him very harsh abusive dose and snatched his dogs and asked him to call his Saab. The drill attracted some more morning walkers. The two dangerous looking dogs were more scared than the servant. The viewers were totally amazed to see that the dogs neither barked nor created any fuss. One wonders what is the value or significance of such dummy dogs, they are only show pieces whereas the two stray dogs jumped over the park wall-railing and started barking loudly to show the drama to the passersby. These so called street or stray dogs won over the healthy diet eaters, living in AC houses. It is sad that these fatty dogs could not protect their servant, who is with them all the time.
One other incident – a NFC Resident feeds milk and bread to two-three street dogs. He or his servant gives a Daily Dose at night to them. Two out of them come when he goes for morning walk from unknown hide- out to escort him to the Park without fail, during the walk no one can touch him and people think that these dogs are his pets. During his walk they sit in Park.
One morning, a gentleman parked his car at some distance from main gate of the Park, these two dogs with that resident were just near the park, after parking his car he moved towards shops while playing with keys and key chain in his finger, he was just entering the gate and his key chain slipped out and fell at the shoe of that Resident, car person bent to pick his key chain, these dogs sprang into action and caught his trousers and tore it off, the man was thrown into the gate and totally baffled and his heart beat swung up. The dogs left him unbitten. The people gathered and consoled him. The dogs thought that he is picking up some brick or stone to hurt the Resident.
This story shows how stray or street dogs work for their food providers whereas pet dogs are only show pieces on which people spend lot of time, money.
