Flashback to 2023 September. Samvada had carried an article titled ‘The Buddh International Circuit Is Even Closer Than You Think’. For those who may have forgotten, in this, we had written about how the Jaypee Wishtown roads are considered as racetracks by many.
From speed breakers to barricades, all has been tried but in vain. We were sitting on a ticking timebomb – waiting for an incident where we would wake up only when someone will get run over. And that is, exactly and tragically, what has happened.
On Thursday, 20 June, at 10 PM, in front of the D/ 26 villa road from Augusta to PC 17-18, an unfortunate incident occurred. Four men in a car, guests of villa E/ 7, first hit a Thar standing in the visitor parking.
Then, when the guard ran towards them, they reversed their vehicle in speed and hit an under – construction wall. The wall collapsed. On the other side, alas, labourers had been sleeping, one of whom ended up in a casualty.
Because of either drunken or rash driving by a group of young men, a young woman, the mother of five small children, met with a premature death. We seemed to have learnt nothing, absolutely nothing from the Porsche Pune incident.
Are our lives so dispensable? Will we ever understand the value of human life? What is the solution? We hope the culprits are brought to justice.
