An accomplished painter is one who has achieved a high level of skill and recognition in the field of painting. This could include mastering various techniques & creating a unique style of work that has been exhibited and recognized at various forums.
One such painter is Neeru Sharma (IT1/ 3002) who showed an interest in painting and a love for colours since she was in Class 7, DPS Mathura Road. She was born to a mother who was a lab technician in Safdarjung Hospital & who wanted to accomplish her own dream of being a doctor through her daughter.
But destiny had other things in store for Neeru! After school, she joined the College of Art, Delhi, a renowned institution. She completed her Bachelor of Fine Art with the second rank & took up a job as a graphic designer with an advertising agency.
In the meantime, Neeru started participating in exhibitions. On her mother’s insistence, she joined the National Information Centre as a junior artist & then the CSIR in an officer grade. Her work was centred around designing monthly magazines and books for school children.
Neeru retired from CSIR after 35 years of service from a post equivalent to a chief secretary. Now her house is her studio. Her husband and son want her to do nothing but to paint. On being asked about her married life, she was quite amused. She got married into an illustrious family of painters. Devkinandan Sharma is her father-in-law’s elder brother. Her father-in-law ran a college of arts in Delhi. So, she got encouragement from the beginning.
To Neeru’s credit, she has completed ~100 paintings. She mostly dabbles in abstracts and uses the brightest of colours. Her recent exhibitions include the India Art Fair in Mumbai & the Lokayata Art Gallery in Delhi.
Neeru has singing as another passion, which she has learnt. She runs her own YouTube channel. It’s been a pleasure meeting her and visiting her home, so full of her creations.
