Delhi is facing acute power and water shortage currently. The situation is going to become worst in coming two months. The issue that needs attention of residents is rampant waste of drinking water and power wastage.
Washing of cars with piped water running continuously is a common sight. For those who do not use piped water, use bucket of water (10 liters) to wash and clean the car every day. The question that needs to be answered is, do we need to wash car everyday using water? Can we manage by dry dusting and cleaning of car every day and wet cloth cleaning once a week. Gurgaon Municipal Corporation has decided to levy a fine of Rs. 5000 on anyone washing car. Not sure, how they plan to implement the policy. It may be better to involve RWA’s to ensure compliance by residents. In Delhi, we need not wait for similar policy announcement from MCD. Recently a resident appealed to RWA President to act against residents who use piped water to wash cars, with no response. While RWA’s may not be able to mandate any policy, they can take initiative to educate residents and monitor compliance.
It is surprising to see street lights and park lights glowing in full swing at 7.30 am when the sun rises at 5.30 am and again at 5.30 pm when the sun sets only after 6.30 pm. When enquired, the reply one gets is that it is not the responsibility of RWA but BSES staff. I believe BSES staff switches on and off-street lights manually and at the convenience of the lineman. This is leading to huge power wastage, shortage of power and loss of revenue to BSES. Will appropriate agencies use technology to manage street / park lights if the current system is not working. We cannot afford power wastages as society.
