Navratri is a time of devotion, fasting, and spiritual reflection. It’s also a time for jubilation and community bonding, and nothing encapsulates this spirit quite like Dandiya and Garba dances.
The Gulmohar Centre, in association with VSM, a cultural organisation, organised a Navratri and Dussehra Mela with fun, frolic, and fantastic performances. Held in the Centre’s vast ground, the venue was adorned with colorful decorations and traditional motifs, and the atmosphere was nothing short of magical. As the sun set and the beats of the dhol began, women dressed in vibrant, mirror-studded chaniya cholis and men sporting traditional attire began the dances, the heart of the event. People of all ages and backgrounds came together to perform the energetic and rhythmic Dandiya and Garba dances with practiced precision.
Guests of honour, MLA Somnath Bharti, Councillor Kamal Bhardwaj and Padmashree Geeta Chandran graced the function, and it was heartening to see that Somnath ji and Kamal ji participated in garba and visited all the stalls to encourage the stall owners.
Of course, no celebration at the Gulmohar Centre is complete without a mouthwatering array of food, and it was no different this time. Everyone savoured the delectable spread to keep energy levels high throughout the night.
But beyond the dancing, the attire, and the food, it was a celebration of life, culture, and togetherness. As Nirupama Verma, the Convenor of Events at the Gulmohar Centre said, “ it was a testament to the power of culture and community, reminding us of the importance of coming together to celebrate our traditions and create lasting memories.”
