Amar Daing, a resident of L 4/11 had a narrow escape when he was about to leave in his car, parked under a Jamun tree in front of his house. The incident happened on 19June. Residents
have been complaining about the overgrown trees and trees that have lost balance due to the cementing and tiling on the pavements. Pruning is long due, but it is either put on hold or happens in parts when only partial pruning is done.
This being a fruit-bearing tree, is raided constantly by labourers to get fresh Jamuns, which are in season. The branches cannot bear much load and due to regular climbing a huge branch broke off on its own and fell close to Mr Daing’s car. Electric wires came falling down along with the branch. An electric pole was also tilted in this fall. It was Mr. Daing’s good luck that he was saved just before he was about to unlock his car. With live electric wires breaking a spark was caused, leading to power failure. QRT and Electricity department was summoned. QRT responded in minutes and started getting the branches removed and pruning the tree. Wires were re-established. The pole remains tilted.
Natasha, wife of Mr. Daing wrote on all Whatsapp groups of DLF 2, questioning; Who was responsible for the timely pruning of the trees? Who would take responsibility if someone was injured or a vehicle damaged?
While these questions remain unanswered, the branches are still lying on the roadside even after a week. Who will pick them is a question yet to be answered.
