“Nai Pahal” along with RWCS, organized a Hindi Kavi Sammelan in the memory of late Captain Shashikant Sharma on February 26, 2023. The chief guest of the program was the great writer Padmashri Daya Prakash Sinha.
Homage was paid to the late Capt Sharma in the presence of his family (his parents, his brother, and his sister-in-law). The evening was anchored by poet Vinod Pande.
The entire atmosphere was charged with an air of patriotism as the poets stepped up to present their poems before the audience. The 100+ strong audience cheered and clapped for the poets Deepak Gupta, Commando Samod Singh, Geeta Bhardwa, Brig Kaushik, and Piyush Malviya. The poems can aptly be described as belonging to the category of Veer Ras, which in Hindi literature is the style of poetry that speaks about heroic poems and also gives detail about the courage and bravery of patriots in the past.
At the end of the function, author DP Sinha spoke about his seminal work on Samrat Ashoka and thanked the RWCS for inviting him, saying that it was a first for him in his 30 years of residing in the sector.
As refreshments were served, residents were heard discussing the poems with the poets and clicking pictures. RWCS President Govind Sharma was heard telling the Nai Pahal organizers that he would like to hold more such functions in the future. One must say that the poetry session was a welcome change, and one hopes that more will continue to be held.
