My Tryst With Malibu

My liking for Malibu Town is from the year 2000 when I came to New Delhi from down south Kochi for a one-year study course with Indian and foreign Defence officers and senior civil servants. During a weekend excursion with a fellow course member, we cruised through Malibu, looking around for a post-retirement home. This spic and span township had a vintage car rally going on, and the band in attendance! The Malibu entrance gate to Maple Drive was impressive. The greenery in parks with blooming seasonal flowers was a sight to behold!  We linked it to our experience of living in the Air Force, Naval stations and Delhi Cantonment.

Construction in the plotted area of Malibu was then sparse while floors in White Wood and flats in Towers 1, 3 and 4 stood tall, some owned by NRIs. It reminded me of some very well-conceived residential complexes seen in the developed Western world.  Independent villas in Malibu were charming low rise with not even a single 4-floor construction as today.  Sample flats in the Towers and a floor in the White Woods were both attractively arranged.  Pertinent to say that Crest Woods was a follow-on after WWs; Tower 2 came up very much later.

The study course ended in December 2000 with the next posting in Delhi. Eventually, I bought a new WW ground floor in resale at about its initial cost. We kept it vacant till retirement in May 2005 and then started living in this township of happy residents. Some lady volunteers would periodically organize a flower show, carnivals etc. Facilities for swimming and Tennis in the club were in use. At times there would be a Tambola evening at the club’s lawn.

My mother urged me to dispose off our house in Jaipur with ample greenery to settle here permanently in a likewise home.

A plot was then bought which was constructed through a resident Architect builder from Malibu. We continued to reside in our WW flat till the completion of our new home in 2009

During my 2nd inning working for a Delhi-based corporate, commuting through the expressway was smooth.

With growth in Gurgaon rampant construction followed. The common RWA for the colony saw the emergence of area-wise RWAs and a Federation to coordinate and for an eye on the upkeep by the builder entity for maintenance.

Increased trespassing by non-residents for driving through Malibu as a shortcut through Pine Drive worsened the condition of internal roads. Also, there was a degradation in standards expected by Residents.

MCG started taking over various services in privately built colonies. There was confusion and at times disruption in work by striking Safai Karamcharis.

Lately, the situation has started improving after the completion of the boundary wall for the Colony and rejuvenated interest in the beautification of parks. Work on internal roads is expected to commence shortly. Signages and paintings of kerbs give a fresh look to the colony.

A lot is expected of the Residents here to improve community living by following traffic and parking guidelines and regular payment of maintenance dues for our gated green township.

With the development in Gurgaon, a host of Shopping facilities, malls, banks, schools and Hospital services have come up nearby.  Malibu Towne was and remains preferred for living in NCR.

As a retired senior citizen, I am enjoying my life in Malibu with friendly citizens, senior citizens and sporting youngers alike.
