On the occasion of Valentine’s Week, Team ‘Alag Karo’ of Saahas NGO, decided to reimagine the days as those expressing love for our Planet. I was honoured to be chosen to share one way in which I express my love for Mother Earth, that of rejuvenating its soil by composting.
It sounds unbelievable, but by the simple act of segregating one’s household Waste, and composting the kitchen and garden Waste, one can actually impact Climate Change. This is so, because if we send mixed, unsegregated Waste to the Landfills, the organic waste lying at the bottom gets cut off from a supply of oxygen, and decomposes under anaerobic conditions. This leads to the release of gases like methane, carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide. These infamous greenhouse gases warm up the Planet which then leads to Climate Change which in turn is responsible for disasters like droughts, floods, heat waves etc.
So when are YOU going to start composting?
