Artificial intelligence: past vs. future
The invention of artificial intelligence (AI) was a revolution in the scientific world. Its intelligence started to narrow, only able to focus on one task at a time, and it was still not considered intelligent. Examples of these AIs are Deep Blue (chess AI), who beat one of the greatest chess players, Garry Kasparov. AI like these have become so advanced at doing a specific thing they were made to do that they will never be overtaken by a human ever again.
Even the most powerful and smartest chatbots today, like ChatGPT, are still narrow. It may be able to do your homework, generate images, write essays, etc., but it doesn’t understand what it is writing. The future of AI is AGI (artificial general intelligence). AGI is not narrow. The level of intelligence is so high that we might not understand its abilities. If the goals of AGI are not aligned with ours, there could be a massive war. Human vs. AI would not go well. Some credible sources say this kind of technology might come in the next 5 to 15 years; others say it is not possible at all.
Humanity is not ready for what will happen next, not mentally, not socially, and not morally. (Aaran Singh, 13 yrs)
