On Sunday, August 4, 2024, residents of DLF Phase 2 staged a peaceful protest titled “My Club, My Right” at the site designated for the long-awaited community club on Akashneem Marg.
Sunday morning residents forwent slumber and gathered to demonstrate as early as 8:30 am. This protest aimed to address the significant delay in the club’s development—a project that was promised by DLF several years ago but remains incomplete.
Currently, the premises are being used by DLF for the storage of construction material for their ongoing projects in DLF Phase 2. Previously, the club was conveniently located near the Bristol Hotel, offering easy access to DLF Phase 2 residents. However, a new club was relocated to DLF Phase 4, leaving DLF Phase 2 residents without a nearby recreational facility.
The protest saw notable figures including Vipin Yadav, Jyotsana Yadav, and Sapna Sehrawat, and awaaz volunteers, all of whom voiced their support for the cause. The event featured passionate slogans and a unified call for action, highlighting the substantial benefits a local club would provide—recreational facilities, social spaces, and communal activities that would significantly enhance the quality of life in the area.
Two years back, a signature campaign was held, gathering over 6,000 signatures from residents demanding the club’s development. Additionally, on August 15 this year, a protest event saw Vipin Yadav and his supporters raise the National Flag at the club premises, symbolizing their ongoing struggle for their right to the community facility.
Organizers stressed that despite ongoing efforts, the project had yet to make progress. So far, there has been no assurance from DLF regarding the opening of the club for the residents of DLF Phase 2. The protest aimed to reignite momentum and pressure DLF to fulfill its commitment. As the demonstration concluded, participants remained hopeful that their collective action would lead to the realization of their long-awaited community club, reflecting the enduring determination of DLF Phase 2 residents to improve their local amenities.
