I have been working with the Gyandeep foundation for the past 5 years now on waste management and waste aggregation. For the past 3/4 months I have volunteered to supervise the curriculum studies of a group of children. These kids come from underprivileged backgrounds, some mothers are domestic help and fathers are drivers. I have been asked to supervise the kindergarten lot, where the age is from 4 years to 8 years. Absolutely love making these kids study basic English, Hindi and math. Love their zeal, energy and enthusiasm to learn new things. They are always super excited and always ready to learn. The co-founder of the group Sumita ji has been very helpful and cooperative. The other volunteers are also very warm and always ready to help.
Me along with other volunteers work with the sole purpose of imparting good mannerism and basic civic habits in these kids. Sunita ji, Sunila ji, Priya ji, Kiran ji, Kavita ji, Shweta ji, Anjali ji along with others have formed it a ritual to pray first for 10 minutes, calm the kids and then form groups according to age criteria to study. The whole atmosphere of the NGO is so peaceful and calm that we don’t even get to know how the two hours pass by (3 to 5 p.m).
I feel we can teach these kids so much about surroundings, environment, health and sanitation. These kids, are like molds, which can shape up to become extraordinary human beings. I absolutely love the energy. Recently I had taken a session on waste management, teaching them the importance of waste segregation and sharing the importance of e waste segregation and its effects on the environment if not disposed of responsibly. All the kids show interest and were ready to donate their e-waste to a recycler call Karo Sambhav for responsible disposal. I am really glad that I am part of the Gyandeep foundation group which is making some serious efforts to bring about a change in our community.
