My Balcony, My Garden

I am a resident of Wellington, and my name is Deepak Arora. I am a Marine engineer and am now retired. Being a marine engineer, how I got into gardening is a question that many people ask.

As Covid started and the lockdown happened, I decided to quit sea life. Now there was a big question, how to spend time locked in my apartment. Then l remembered my childhood days when my father was in Govt. service, and we had a large flower garden in the front and a large vegetable garden at the back. My father was a great gardening enthusiast, and we had the best garden in our colony. So love for plants has lingered in my mind all these years.

Covid lockdown and that lingering childhood memory made me start a small balcony garden. Luckily for me, I had inherited my father’s green thumb. One thing led to another, and I now have more than 50 varieties of plants in my two small balconies. I take great care of my plants. They are my babies. l manure them, water them and try to protect them from bad weather, which is unsuitable for them.

This winter, I have all the seasonal flowers like Dhalia, Marigold, Lintana, Petunia, and Rainbow pink. Besides that, I have a good collection of indoor plants too. I feel so happy when  I see my flowers blooming. As soon as I get up, I go to my small garden and wish them Good Morning. They also answer me with their sweet smile.
