My 108 Dips and Unforgettable Encounters at Mahakumbh 2025

Only seen in movies about Kumbh Mela, where lots of people lost their friends, children, or any other family members, I took all my strength to visit the Mahakumbh’25 in February 2025 to get the “first-hand lifetime experience.” As it is considered to be the holiest time in Hinduism, the Kumbh Mela (Maha Kumbh happens once in 144 years) is an event that intrinsically encapsulates the science of astronomy, astrology, spirituality, ritualistic traditions, and socio-cultural customs and practices, making it extremely rich in knowledge. While taking my holy dips, I saw pilgrims to the Kumbh Mela come from all sections of the religion, ranging from Sadhus (saints) and Naga Sadhus who practice ‘sadhana’ and keenly follow a strict path of spirituality during the Kumbh Mela to seekers of spirituality and common people practicing Hinduism.

I was lucky to meet so many unique Sadhus in their Akhara stalls, which were decorated tastefully by these Sadhus, who were given space to showcase their talents and sadhana skills and also to stay during the entire period. The crowd was massive and unbelievable but still managed by thousands of policemen, volunteers, and many organisations. The chants of “Har Har Gange” were done all over the place. I took 108 dips to create my record at the Holy Ganges. As an avid photographer, I took hundreds of pictures and videos of this greatest and largest Mahakumbh.

The daily walks around the Ganges, eating local food, and staying in an ashram and tents were a testing but quite satisfying experience for me. I prayed for all our readers, friends, and family to stay healthy and happy forever. HAR HAR GANGE !!
