“If music be the food of love …. play on!!”
Dr. Krishna Kumar, K Block, floated a pleasant message of his classical music and karaoke
lessons re-starting after the COVID lull. He has his own orchestra and is a regular on the music
scene in NCR. Most residents put in a word of appreciation. Dr. Asha Mishra, our ‘A’ Block
Japanese San, wanted to re-visit her Japanese songs and learn karaoke too.
The cherry on the cake for me however came from Mrs. Seema Garde, M Block. She asked me
whether I liked Japanese music, when she read my Indo-Japanese fusion music remark of
appreciation for Asha ji. Yes! I said obviously … any music except the head-bangers ball or
vulgar Polly-Bolly rap kind, is perfectly fine by me.
Lo and behold! She sent me a re-mix link of the Japanese young singing sensation Ikimono-
gakari’s chartbuster Blue Bird video. The young lady who had done the re-mix had the sweetest
and most melodious voice. Her Japanese was fluent beyond words. Check out her Japanese remix
And guess what? The teenager was 100% Indian. Second guess what?? The nightingale was
Sanaa Garde, Southcity-I’s singing prodigy. Although I stay in an independent house, I was
floored …. and asked the proud mother for a tiny biopic. And she wrote ….
“Sanaa has been learning Indian Classical music since the age of 4 years and has a “Prabhakar”
senior diploma, in the same. Along with her passion for music, she is pursuing her degree at
NIFT Delhi. Equally proficient in singing in languages like English, Marathi and even Japanese,
she posts many covers on her YouTube channel and Instagram. She has also won many awards
and rewards at various levels. She sang for a music video, which went on to win many national
and international awards, the highlight being “The Excellence Award” at The 12th Dadasaheb
Phalke Film Festival in May 2022. For her, music is her biggest passion, everything else can
wait”. Check out her songs on, YouTube: @SanaaGarde & Instagram: @sanaagarde
In lighter vein : I have seen Sanaa grow up and exchanged ‘Hi’s’ with her almost every morning
when she was rushing for the school bus, a half-eaten jam sandwich in her hand and I was
returning from my swim. I nicknamed her ‘Jammy’ and each time we all had a good laugh on
that. All that schooldays jam has paid off and sweetened her throat and voice I guess. She is
‘jamming’ so beautifully.
