Mridula Murgai’s Address At The AGM On Sat, Oct 19

Extracts from the address

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen

It is my privilege to welcome you to our 53rd Annual General Meeting and to get a chance to talk to you and listen to you.

We begin the proceedings by paying tribute to a gentleman, Mr. KC Varughese who has served both the Society and Vasant Vihar Welfare Association for almost 30 years and was a familiar figure in both the offices. He was hospitalised with a health issue very suddenly last winter, which prevented him from working any further. This is just a small tribute to a man who set many benchmarks in the functioning of our office and he was such a familiar figure there that even today our members are surprised that he is not there!

After retiring from the army in 1993 he joined the Society office and served there till 2002. After that he joined VVWA, where he served the members of VVWA, providing assistance and support in various capacities. We had hoped that he would join us today, but he is unable to travel even short distances. However, all of us would like to say, thank you Mr. Varughese and may you be healthy and happy during your retirement years.

Many of you will have noticed that at night from 11 pm onwards till 5 am only one of the three main Margs – Paschimi, Poorvi and Vasant Marg, are left open for traffic until 5 am. The other two Margs are barricaded and closed for traffic from 11 pm till 5 am. In the month of October Paschimi Marg is open and in November Poorvi Marg will be open. This has been done by the traffic police. It is a measure towards improving the security levels of our colony.

The Marshals appointed by your association have been working very actively for many months in Vasant Vihar. They had been financed by donations and CSR funding and had been chosen from a reputed Security Agency. Their duty was to travel throughout the colony and prevent any new vendor from moving around the colony. Presently, we are revamping this project and are planning to add more Marshall’s to the team so that we can cover even more areas and issues.

Your Association is in active contact with the Deputy Commissioner of MCD and has had very positive meetings with the authorities here. We are hoping that with the latest meeting with the DC this week, and the relevant MCD officials in his office, there will be some positive impact and cohesiveness towards the solution of our issues.

We hope you have noticed the FTCS installed on Munirka Marg opposite the old MTNL office. Soon we will be inaugurating the new composting pit in the C9 Park and this will make C Block self-reliant.

Your association has formed a task force consisting of our MC members and volunteers. They have done amazing work, – identifying where speed breakers are needed; getting quotes from various dealers; getting MCD and PWD permission to install the speed breakers. Along with the speed breakers we are also installing traffic signs throughout the main thoroughfares here.

VVWA has always been concerned about the spread of mosquitoes around our homes. Every year we have regularly twice a year we have had the entire colony fumigated.

Our interactions with the Society team have been many, and the discussions have been productive and positive. We look forward to working with them towards a better Vasant Vihar.

I would like to remind our members that we have been elected by you – twice unopposed. We are volunteers who dedicate a great deal of our time trying to solve the many issues faced by our residents. Please do appreciate try to understand the efforts we make and above all join hands with us to make this a better colony.
