As the old academic session comes to an end and the new one is yet to begin, children get a much-needed break from the rigorous routine of school. During this vacation period, children get an opportunity to engage in various activities that they enjoy and look forward to.
One of the most popular activities among children during vacations is traveling with their families. Children love exploring new places, experiencing different cultures and cuisines, and engaging in adventurous activities like trekking, hiking, and camping. It is an excellent way for children to broaden their horizons and learn about the world around them.
Apart from traveling, children also enjoy spending time with their friends and family. They indulge in activities like playing board games, video games, watching movies, and going to amusement parks. Abhyu Raina studying in grade 3 of The Heritage School believes in spending quality time with his father – “I like to watch movies and love to play with my friends. I also go for rock climbing with my Dad and read lots of books.”
Children also enjoy pursuing their hobbies like painting, music, dance, and sports. Varshney sisters, Lavanya grade 10th and Kavya grade 6th, both studying at Apeejay School have each other’s company. “The increasing of holidays till April has given a fruitful opportunity to all students to pursue extracurricular activities. I myself have been playing guitar and tennis in the break. I am also looking forward to start the next session with a new energy as well as a fresh mind,” says Lavanya. “This little break is fun filled as I m delighted to have more family time, especially with my Didi. Enjoying watching Dr. Binocs videos, reading Bal Ramayan, playing tennis and learning piano these days,” is little Kavya’s take.
With no pressure from school, children can also spend more time with their parents and grandparents. They can learn new skills like cooking, gardening, and crafting from their elders. This helps in building stronger bonds with their family members and creating cherished memories that they will cherish for a lifetime. “I was very nervous and scared about going to 7th grade but when I found out that my favourite teacher will be my class teacher, suddenly I’m very excited to go to 7th grade. Before going to my grandparents’ house, I attended the sports summer camp that happened for one week at my school and enjoyed a lot. With grandparents ate many ice creams, pizza(s) and burgers. I went shopping with them for a new bag, bottle, shoes, clothes and stationery. I played many outdoor games with my friend trying to pretend to be a ninja. I love spending time with my grandparents but I am looking forward to 7th grade. This was the most amazing and brilliant break ever!!” Ambar Gupta of Manav Rachna School told us.
As the vacation draws to a close, children start looking forward to the new school session. They are excited to meet their old friends and make new ones. They look forward to new classes, new teachers, and new challenges. Children also set new goals for themselves, like getting better grades or participating in more extracurricular activities.
Despite having no assignments or exams during this period, children can still engage in activities that will help them in the upcoming academic session. They can read books, solve puzzles, and attend workshops to keep their minds sharp and enhance their knowledge.
In conclusion, the vacation between the old and new academic session is a much-needed break for children. As has been aptly put by Avi Jain, studying in grade 9th DPS Noida “playing straight for 10 hours!!” It is an excellent opportunity for them to engage in various activities that they enjoy and spend quality time with their family and friends. As they look forward to the new school session, children can set new goals for themselves and engage in activities that will help them achieve those goals.
