Members discuss organ donation
Friendship Club meeting of the month of June took place on 26th June 2023. It was attended by 45-50 members and the agenda was discussion on Organ donation while living or after death.
An informative, eye opening, convincing talk was given by Dr. Kajal Mehra. During life time one can donate one kidney, portion of liver etc. In cadaver form after death – heart, lungs, kidneys, liver & eyes can be retrieved within a specified time and can give life to a number of patients who are sure to die because of non functioning of any of the vital organs. After removing organs incision is stitched as in case of surgery, hence externally there’s no change in appearance.
Samvada Input: Organ donation after death can easily be registered while still alive. AIIMS has a department ‘Deh Daan’ where people sometimes donate all their organs and even bodies after death. Samvada had carried the story of two such exemplary residents of nearby Gulmohar Park, who had donated their bodies as such.
After the talk, Neelima Kumar came up with appropriate bhajan in her melodious voice. The meeting closed with mouth watering snacks enjoyed with conversation “hame to yeh sab pata hi nahi tha”.
