All India Kitchen Garden, Unit 8A held their August meet on 6th August, 2024, at the residence of Rekha Mittal, an old stalwart of Green Park with Dr PK Pant, an authority on plant management who happened to be the guest speaker. It was a well attended meeting because of popularity of Dr Pant as a speaker as well as celebration of Teej, though of course we had ushered Teej much in advance in one of our earlier meetings.
Subject of discussion had a little change at the behest of members so we shifted from ‘Nutrition for Plants’ to ‘Plant Diseases and management’’ since the subject was lengthy, it was divided into two parts.
1) Pest and Diseases
Identification and solutions for controlling pests and disease are very important for maintaining a growing garden. Because of this, it is top priority to understand some common pests and diseases and their management. In this article I am going to cover the identification of pests and in the next I am going to cover the management
Dr Pant has spent lot of time in dealing with this subject in his magazine as well as explaining to us personally in our 6th August 24 meeting, so I would like to reach you through him in detail to graduate in the subject. After the productive and constructive session with Dr Pant our most hospitable hoster Rekha Mittal, invited us to a lovely lunch of Tandoori paranthas i.e sada paratha, aloo parantha and paneer parantha. Paranthans were enough to satisfy our taste and hunger. Yet Rekha ji added kali Dal, Dahi Wadas, Paneer in gravy, Dum Aloos with jhol, Saladas, garam garam gulab jamun, Kheer etc. I was oozing out with food yet could not resist the culinary display and taste. In spite of being full up to the brim I could not control myself from tasting everything from the nashta to the drinks. Thank you Rekha ji, master of varied qualities, besides sweet voice and lucknowi culture.
Ladies were all dressed in lovely green attires and jewelry. Manju bhabhi’s ghevar was made specially with less sugar and was at the top of the mishthan Bhandar. We all did justice to that and I walked home with an additional two/ three kilograms of weight.
