When, instead of buying a new saucepan, Mohini Murari, of PD-25, decided to fix the existing one with a new handle that she crafted out of a piece of wood, little did she know that she’d discover a passion that is oh-so-unique especially for women. 12 years later, as she proudly shows off the collection born out of a chance hobby, one can’t help but admire the finesse and command she has developed over her craft in a rather short span. The unique hobby of hers that we are talking about is Carpentry. Usually considered a male domain, Mohini took to it as easily as a fish takes to water. Her indulgent husband is the one who noticed her talent with the wood and bought her, her first set of tools. She has been unstoppable ever since and has fashioned tables, plant holders, ladles and spoons out of not just wood but also coconut shells. The wood she primarily uses for making furniture is Keekar, Mango and Sheesham.
Mohini is set to share her amazing skills with youngsters through workshops she will soon be conducting at an upcoming forest school.
She sure is a hidden gem of our bejewelled Malibu family.
