But what about the journey to and fro the metro?

One of the most developed and efficient ways of public transportation present in the country which has spread its wings across the entire map of Delhi-NCR sees a daily footfall of 47.3 lakhs per day, according to the latest data in September 2022. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is evolving and trying to envelope the entirety of the population of the Delhi-NCR to make it a cohesive mode of transportation for everyone. In the effort of doing so and looking into the safety perils that are present in the area, it has introduced several measures to make it more comfortable and secure for everyone to travel, especially women. These measures include CCTV camera surveillance throughout the stations and in the compartments, a separate coach designated to women passengers and a security force deployed specifically to ensure the security in the metro lines under the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
While all of this ensures that passengers are safe and secure inside and in the circumferential area of the metro stations, there really is no certainty of the same level of safety to reach the metro stations. The lack of the extent and degrees of the safety measures as soon as you step out of the area of the metro stations is truly alarming and shows a huge negligence on the part of the police department and their administration regarding the same.
In a similar instance, we see the Sector 50 metro station situated on the Aqua Line. The metro station seems to be a safe spot but the route to and fro to the station goes through a pitch black road. The road leading to the station is almost never lit and empty patches of land on either side with no source to hold accountable for or towards making it extremely dangerous, precarious and threatening to reach the station especially after the sun sets.
There seems to be no patrolling of police cars to warrant the safety of the people residing in the area and a clear inefficiency and deficit of course of action in regards to the provision of basic security and safety of the residents. Regardless of the mode of travel, be it walking or taking an auto to and fro, the concerns remain the same and there seems to be no respite from this issue anytime soon.
