Meri Parking: Meri Parking….

The parking space in the colony is decreasing each day due to construction of Builder floors in almost all the buildings. Defence colony was planned for approx.

1700 families or says 5000 people with a colony market for day to day needs of the residents but after 6-7 decades the outlook of colony is like a concrete jungle where every single house now has 4 floors, basement, stilt etc to house 4-5 families with 15-20 people in each house. Then there are more than 600 houses with basements given on rent to lawyers, clinics, parlours, and consultants etc who use them commercially for long hours and have thousands of visitors throughout the day. The cars and other vehicles are parked either in front of houses or are on the roads which results in accidents, daily fights for the parking space. As we have many senior citizens who generally face these arrogant “tenants” who not only threaten the residents sometimes even use violence to shut them up. There are more than 500 cars from nearby colonies which are parked for 24 hours at various places.

As the rentals in Def Col are quite high, the greed to give away basements or any floor to commercial establishments is always there, which is the main reason for parking issues to the residents who come back from the office in the evening and don’t have place to park their own vehicles. The car thefts are now quite common in Def Col and if residents don’t get parking space in front of their own house then losing their hard money on these assets will continue forever.

What’s solution?

  • The residents must be given car stickers and the outsiders’ cars need to be parked outside the colony or at a designated places in each block;
  • The residents should avoid to renting out basements and use it for their own personal us
  • Any car parked for few days must be informed to the RWA and police and get it towed away at the earliest; this will deter outsiders from parking inside our colony.
