May is dedicated to mental health awareness and Mother’s Day as well. Hence, it is crucial to understand the significance of mental well-being, especially for mothers.
I had the pleasure to speak to Jaya Khanna (14263), a certified Life Coach and a Parenting Expert since six years.
Jaya has been a Keynote Speaker on the National News Channel and at Delhi University, in MNCs and NGOs, imparting Life Coaching and parenting concepts and techniques to overcome stress and depression; and giving parenting strategies to raise resilient children and have a work-life balance.
Jaya has won awards and has been honoured by FOX STORY INDIA as – amongst the 50 powerful women of India 2022. She has been recognised and published in newspapers and magazines.
Jaya feels compelled to highlight the mental health role for working mothers as it plays a role in shaping their families, home environment and even workplaces. “Motherhood is a journey filled with joy and love, but there can be challenges as well.”
The demands from a mother, who is the family caregiver and nurturer, who handles all the household chores, relationships and even her professional commitments, are such that she often neglects her own mental well-being.
Neglecting mental health does not just affect the individual; it has a ripple effect into every aspect of family life, relationships, home environment, work productivity and overall harmony.
If a mother prioritizes her mental wellness, she is (a) better equipped to handle daily activities; (b) in good mood; (c) able to communicate effectively; (d) able to build healthy relationships and nurture them; and (e) able to perform at the highest at the work front as well.
Also, mothers’ mental health influences the children’s emotional development, shaping their resilience and coping mechanism for life, their personality as well.
