Manhole covers and gas cylinders at the end of a driveway, these everyday items have been on the radar for petty thieves. They act with impunity, opening the gate and entering the drive ways in broad daylight or early evening, uncaring of the CCTV cameras or the traffic on the busy street. In fact, one morning at 11.30 a.m. some people even stole a Ganesh statue from a home and tried to get away with it via the foot over bridge. They were thwarted by the staff of Panchshila Society who bravely confronted them and retrieved the statue. Another issue has been the constant problem of indiscriminate parking by outside cars and cabs and blocking of legitimate parking space.
These are important issues and rather than discuss over WhatsApp groups it was decided to invite the interested residents and the beat constable for a brainstorming session. The meeting was scheduled for 11.30 a.m. on August 31, 2024 and was well attended by residents, 2 members of the Colony sub-committee and the constable. The conversation carried on for over an hour, one of the thieves was even identified, as he seems to be a serial offender in the area, but he has been absconding.Based on past history it was concluded that the thieves are probably suffering from addictions and it was recommended by the Cops that residents not try and take on these thieves personally. It was decided that a WhatsApp group will be set up comprising the Panchshila Society administrative staff, the relevant Beat Constables from both blocks and members of the Colony Affairs Sub Committee. Once our staff is aware of any occurrence the matter is promptly posted on that group so that the Police and security are informed at the earliest. The WhatsApp group was set up immediately and includes two Beat constables assigned to S block and two from N and E Block. It was a good meeting and we will continue our endeavor to seek solutions for our Colony with the co-ordinated effort of all concerned.
