Shrila Gupta, a resident of 14013, graduated in architecture from Surat and holds an M. L. Arch degree from the School of Planning and Architecture in New Delhi.
As a landscape architect, Shrila co-founded Design Process in 2006 with her husband. Her work spans large-scale projects to intimate-scale spaces such as terraces and gardens. She focuses on designs that benefit both people and nature.
Due to her exposure to lush surroundings and gardening during childhood, Shrila was inspired by the many benefits of trees, such as providing shade, fruit, and wildlife support.
Shrila’s commitment to making an environmental impact led her to join the ATS One Hamlet Horticulture Team. She has actively contributed to green initiatives.
In recent years, One Hamlet has faced challenges, including losing a trained horticulture team that was previously part of the ATS facility. In response, the Horticulture Team was established to reintroduce a maintenance regime and restore the outdoor spaces to their former splendour.
As a member of this team, Shrila contributes by surveying the area to identify and address issues such as plant loss, necessary replacements, pruning and fertigation needs.
The Horticulture Team has also played a role in nurturing an in-house nursery for growing seasonal saplings and is exploring composting leaf mould for manure. Shrila’s responsibilities include helping identify plants for procurement, advising on their placement, and training the in-house team.
Additionally, Shrila engages with residents, particularly children, and support staff and encourages them to participate in plantation drives.
Shrila advises pursuing landscape architecture for individuals with a design flair and respect for nature. Graduates from architecture, planning, geography, horticulture and environmental sciences can further their studies in landscape architecture.
While undergraduate programs are largely abroad, a science background and passion for creating harmonious outdoor spaces can lead to a fulfilling career.
