Elections to MCD, after the unification, were delayed by almost ten months. Finally, after much anticipation, elections were held in Dec. 2022. We, the residents had high hopes that now probably the acrimony would be over & with a clear verdict in favor of one party, would result in to a proactive MCD, which primarily is responsible for the maintenance of most essential services in Delhi.
Tall promises were made during elections, there was talk of sharing power with the elected RWA’s & giving them status of mini councilors. All RWA’s with good intentions were hopeful that the daily civic issues & problems would end soon.
However, six months have passed & all hopes been dashed to ground with a non performing MCD, due to several factors like, the non-formation of the house, delayed elections of standing committee, which is the most powerful body, non-sanction of funds etc. The “babudom” is not afraid as there is no body to question them. Earlier, at least people could approach their local councilors for resolving day to day problems but that window has almost been blocked till a regular functioning full house of MCD is constituted.
MCD bureaucracy is under the direct control of the home ministry thru LG & we all know the story with such an arrangement.
Anyway, not to give up easily, our RWA wrote a detailed letter to the Dy. Commissioner of our area, highlighting 21 major pending points on 18th May, 2023. (Letter shared with our members) Copies were marked to the Hon’ble Mayor of Delhi & the local Councilor. This letter was sent to all concerned thru, Speed post, E Mail & whats app.
