Vote for the Candidate Who Can Deliver
by Rajiv Kakria (9810275168)
Finally MCD Elections have been announced after much Intrigue and Politicking. Municipal Elections impact the residents directly, as delivery of civic amenities like sanitation, roads, storm water drains, parks, community centre / club, play grounds, encroachments, parking, stray dogs, encroachment of public spaces, enforcement of building bye laws etc. come directly under MCD. Yet the electoral heat somehow does not transfer into vote percentage in posh colonies stays restricted to drawing room debates and cribbing thereafter.
Political parties know this and choose candidates that suit their narrow political ends, ignoring the genuine needs of upmarket Colonies. The result is, while Posh Colony residents are given Royal Lip Service and an occasional LAD Fund Project, the real issues affecting the residents stay ignored.
This election, let’s change that, and make our vote count so that political parties give tickets to candidates that have a proven track record of welfare work in the area; with a vision for overall development and up gradation of services; should be proactive in taking up social issues that impact residents; should forcefully place the voice of people in the corridors of power; should consult area residents before taking up development projects instead of party workers etc.
Important issues that must be addressed to maintain the Posh Tag of GK are…… clear footpaths of all encroachments; pavements are in shambles; regular cleaning of backlanes; play ground for children, community centre/club instead of a barat ghar; policy for parking, management of colony gates & community functions in parks; stop mushrooming of guest houses, shops & offices to retain residential character of gk; enforcement of building bye laws by builders; market corridors should be free of encroachments; end stray dog/monkey menace etc.
This is not impossible as there are areas in Delhi, Lutyens Delhi that have better services….. meaning someone is doing something right in pushing the staff to work and does not need to go to Singapore or Paris to understand City Management ….. after all we also pay huge taxes and deserve better.
So residents, this Election come out and show your demanding self at the polling booth …… vote in large numbers …… be proactive first in the selection of candidates ….. then forming an opinion about the right candidate …….. and elect the one best suited for your colony rising above party lines.
