MB Resident Complains to Secretary Environment & Police Against Illegal Felling of Trees

A resident of Maharani Bagh has written to Pr. Secretary (Environment & Forest) Department of Forests and Wildlife, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi against illegal felling of trees next to her house. She has sent a copy of the same complaint to police of NFC station to take swift action. Following is the letter:

I am the owner and occupant of 3 Southern Avenue, Maharani Bagh. I would like to bring to your kind attention that the neigh-bouring plot, 2 Southern Avenue, Maharani Bagh has recently been sold. The new buyers/developers intend to illegally cut down the trees growing on the plot, which includes two healthy and thriving fruit trees, as part of their plans to construct a new residential building in the said plot. This is in breach of current laws and orders of the High Court of Delhi and your swift action to put a stop to this is humbly requested.

In most of the South Delhi colonies new builders and property developers have a tendency to pull down trees and reposition electric poles that come in the way of their property to ensure that the look and feel of the façade is not hindered in any way. The property dealers have designed ways to manoeuvre the authorities and get clearances so that their actions become legally tenable and can’t be questioned.

In order to get their clearances in place they give the NGT and the electricity departments all kinds of future promises that may or may not get fulfilled. Whenever residents complain to the relevant authority, approvals are shown and their dissent is nulled. Residents have done their duty of complaining to the authority but ultimately it will be better to accept that this how things are in our part of the country.
