Sharad Navratri is an annual 9-day festival of fasting and feasting, which ends with the celebration of Ram Navmi, the birthday of Lord Ram, and the next day is cel-
ebrated as Dussehra or Vijay Dashmi.
On this year’s Navratri, a long festival was organized at Prateek Wisteria consisting of many events. There was Dandiya Night and Ram Leela (covered separately inside), and Sufi music. Dr Mahesh Sharma had also visited the event. The much awaited Mata Ki Chowki was organized with a splendid altar showing the goddess in all her glory. The event started at about 6:30 pm, with a prayer led by the esteemed senior citizens of the society, post which there was a couple of hours of wonderful singing of devotional songs to the Mother, led by a melodious mandli of famous devotional singers and musicians. The creative singers and their team engaged one and all in the chanting, and soon all were on their feet, clapping, singing, and dancing to the devotional fervor whipped up by the talented mandli.
The prayers and music were followed by a scrumptious and well deserved dinner, consisting of a variety of vegetarian delicacies and dessert. As always, care was taken to have fasting as well as non-fasting food, to allow maximum participation. Care was also taken to have proper sitting arrangements, especially for our seniors.
