A Happy Ending – Hope we can keep it that way.
Ruby, our 10-year-old streetie inhabits our club. She made her second visit to the doctor and Red Paws Rescue shelter within 9 months, to attend to the problem of food and bones getting stuck in her intestines and solidifying, resulting in her inability to pass stools. This happens because she has an accidented hip and deformed spine due to an accident and anything hard simply gets stuck in her intestine.
Ruby was picked up on 22nd December 2023 and dropped back on 25th January 2024. She underwent extensive Enema treatment and other medication to clear up her intestines.
Upon her return, Beenu Kohli (E 31) and Vinit Taneja (N 178), members of the Steeties Management Group, met up with Mr Asharam, Club Manager and Mr. Shambhu Ray, the day guard on duty, to work out a proper solution for managing soft food for Ruby and preventing her from random feeding by others .
Ms. Beenu Kohli was kind enough to volunteer cooking khichdi for Ruby and arrangements were made to have it delivered to the club premises around 10:30 am and 4:30 pm every day.
It was agreed that the staff would be cautious that no one else gives any feed to Ruby since she is unable to digest that food. Asharam and Shambhu organized posters that were put up in select areas of the club, with a request that Ruby should not be fed by anyone. All club staff has also been advised in this regard.
Aman Chawla (N 32), the SMG member, will make weekly visits to the club to check compliance against our plan. The four of us have created a WhatsApp group for regular communication to manage the entire situation for Ruby.
Together, we are working toward preventing a difficult medical situation for her and to make sure that we don’t have to relocate her to a shelter at this stage of her life.
Gratitude to all stakeholders for working together to keep Ruby in good health and spirit. We request Club staff and visitors to not feed Ruby anything at all.
The next hospitalization might just be too much for her to take.
