On June 15 I went to my bank to get my son’s passbooks updated and realized that from Nov 2022 till May 2023, money to the tune of 3 lac has been withdrawn. My son lives in another town and the num-ber registered with the bank has long been discontinued.
We had a 12 hour house help who had been working with my mom for 4 years off and on. Once she had left mom’s work to go to her village. So mom kept another one and when she returned from her Village I employed her as she was a very good worker and we didn’t want to lose her. It was in her tenure with us that this theft was discovered.
We called the police, she was interrogated and she confessed to her crime after 4 days saying that during one of our cupboard cleaning sessions she found some paper documents with my son’s signature on it and one day she found my son’s cheque book in his folder while cleaning his room. She tore 6 cheques out of it, forged his signatures with the help of some accomplices and sat quietly thinking we won’t get to know it…and brazenly continued to work for us. Meanwhile I underwent 2 surgeries and during that time she had free access to the rooms.
Police saw the cctv, identified her, interrogated her and now have asked her to hunt for the accomplices. The bank in question has strangely allowed the withdrawal even though the sign is clearly forged. Now we are going to the banks and the police everyday…but strangely no questioning is being done of the teller who released the money Rs 50000/and Rs 1 lac without checking the ID of the person involved.
Bank is trying to say that clearly the sign ID is forged but the flow of the signature is ok so we cashed the cheque. I found it very strange. Its my hard earned money which i had gifted to my son. I am a senior citizen and though we went to the SHO CR Park, we haven’t had much help so far from the police. I really don’t know how to get through this.
This girl had come to us through a placement agency so we didn’t get her police verification done. But apparently she has 15 different identification papers. Please beware of even the most trusted househelps.
